How do I keep my page up even if people click links

Hi... still fairly new to all this and I'm still learning the flaws of what I'm doing ... have discovered that, when someone clicks a link I have on my (Typepad) site to another site, they're directed away from my site ... is there any way to keep my site up on their screen no matter what link they click? Hope this question makes sense?

You should include in your links the target atttibute
a href="your link" target="_blank"

(there is no < or > because comments dont accept HTML ;-)

and it will open a new window when user click on it.

It's not always very web minded but it depends of the case.

you will find a percentage of people on this forum to be very anti this kind of behaviour (myself included).

Why try and trap people on your site? Set your readers free and if you are good they will come back to you of their own accords.

There is a proportion of the population who do not like the webmaster dictating the opening of a new window.

Thankfully in modern times firefox and tabs have saved me from this, but still my own personal preference is not to be scared of sending readers on to other links.

Wish I knew how to find the post where we discussed all that...

and not as nicely worded as Sam's answer: It's considered bad web design etiquette to force your readers to stay at your site when they click on those external links.

It may not make sense at first, but over time it will.

Let your readers chose their own reading style behavior.

Yes. As a frequenter of the intraweb, I've been a big fan of this sort of 'freeze-frame' a webpage thing. I generally find that if you set up your web page to occupy the WHOLE screen, removing all the standard toolbars etc, and unlink all the text on your page, the users are pretty much trapped. Pretty rad. Now if I could work out how to unplug their keyboard from the other side of the world, I would truly be a genius. Pardon the pun.

Haha. I think you mean internet. Never heard of the intraweb before! Imagine you could pull out the powercord on their technology box. That would be smarter.
lol,

Peter.

What the hell is a technology box?

I don't think you should be trapping people. That's probably illegal.
